The first meeting of the BASIS Standing Committee on IPR, presided over by Chairman Mr. BM Shorif, Founding Managing Director & CEO of Skylark Soft Ltd was held on Saturday, 23rd November, at the BASIS Boardroom. The meeting was attended by Mr. M Rashidul Hasan, President of BASIS, and Mr. Mir Shahrukh Islam, Director of BASIS. Other participants included Dr. Muhammad Risalat Siddique (Director-In-Charge), Co-Chairs Ms. Tasnuva Shelley and Engr. Muhammad Mahbub Hussain. Co-Chair Ms. Mohsena Khanom ACCA and members Mr. Ashraf Uddin and Mr. Mustafiz Ahmed Khan joined virtually. The meeting was facilitated by Md. Zulfiker Hayder, Secretariat In-Charge.
Discussions focused on finalizing the ToR for the committee and planning comprehensive guides on the IPR framework in Bangladesh. Key topics included when to patent vs. copyright and the importance of registration as the first step in IP protection. Plans were laid out for market research through FGDs with the judiciary, law enforcement, and stakeholders, along with awareness sessions for BASIS members on IP valuation’s role in improving access to finance and strengthening the IP ecosystem.
