Knit Asia Ltd receives LEED platinum certificate by USGBC

Knit Asia Limited is pleased to announce that, ‘Knit Asia Limited Unit 2’ a garments manufacturing facility in Ratanpur, Shafipur, Bangladesh is honored with LEED Platinum Certification in Recognition of Sustainability Leadership and it’s an official recognition by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for achieving the esteemed LEED Platinum certification. This milestone showcased Knit Asia Limited Unit 2’s dedication to sustainable practices and its commitment to environmental stewardship.

The Knit Asia Limited Unit 2 takes immense pride in achieving LEED Platinum certification with very high LEED points (99 of 110) and became the 4th best Green Building Project in the World, marking a significant milestone in our journey towards environmental stewardship and sustainable development. This achievement underscores Knit Asia Limited Unit 2’s unwavering commitment to creating a greener, healthier future for generations to come.

During the ceremony, held on 08.03.2024 at Knit Asia Limited, Ratanpur, Shafipur, showcased the innovative features and technologies that contributed to its LEED Platinum certification. From energy-efficient design elements to water conservation measures, Knit Asia Limited Unit 2its holistic approach to sustainability and its proactive efforts to minimize its environmental impact.

Mr. Ananta Ahmed (USGBC Faculty, LEED AP BD+C, LEED AP ID+C, LEED AP EB O+M, LEED AP HOMES, LEED AP ND) from GBCI & USGBC handover the certificate and LEED Plaque as Honorable Guest to honorable New Asia Group Chairman Mr. A. Matin Chowdhury, Director Mr. Azizur Rahim Chowdhury, Executive Director Mr. Engr. Saiful Islam Shahin, GM & Plant Head Mr. Md. Fariduzzaman Sohel   & Knit Asia Team Lead by Manager (MNT) Mr. Jakirul Islam and Asst Manager (MNT) Mr. Shohag Ahmed.

Mr. Ananta Ahmedsaid “Receiving the LEED Platinum certification is a significant achievement for Knit Asia Limited Unit 2, and it reflects its ongoing commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. GBCI & USGBC like to congratulate the entire team to be came the 4th best ‘Green Building Project’ in the World.

He said, “LEED is not just a certificate; it is the most effective business management system if we understand and follow. Benefits are very high and cannot be ignored”. Knit Asia Limited Unit 2 is a shining example of that. He also said, “If we factually understand LEED Green Building Concepts, the cost is not an issue and if we analyze the costs and benefits in a meaningful way, we will see LEED Green Building costs less than regular buildings and create PROFIT.”

He added, “Carbon emission can be identified as our planet’s number one enemy. Reducing carbon from the environment is a global challenge. Despite being a garment factory, our commitment to our planet’s well-being and safety is uncompromising. Our buyers and vendors are both equally concerned deeply about our environment. Going Green, will not only ensure reducing energy and water usage along with lower operating costs but also improved indoor air quality and increased employee productivity”. Ananta Ahmed made a presentation highlighting Knit Asia Limited Unit 2 Green Journey and Sustainable Achievements. Sustainable Achievements have been highlighted in two fronts, one is Building Dequantization perspectives and the other one is LEED perspectives.

Building Decarbonizations Achievements Summary are as follows; –

  • Total Carbon Emissions reduction is 4,799 Tons of CO2e to 1,487 Tons of CO2e, that is a savings of 3,312 Tons of CO2e and equivalent to 82,800 Trees planted or is equivalent to the carbon sequestered by 3,950 acres of forests in a year.
  • Energy related Carbon Emissions was 1,572 Tons of CO2e reduced to 1,037 T CO2e and Carbon Emissions savings is 535 T CO2e which 257 T CO2e savings came from Renewable Energy use.
  • Carbon Emissions reduction of water savings. 195 KgCO2e- from Rainwater, 13,850 KgCO2e- from Fixtures, 8,069 KgCO2e- from Landscape and Total = 22.11 T CO2e- Reduced.
  • Carbon Emissions reduction achieved from Waste Management, 33 Tons of CO2e reduce to 16 Tons of CO2e and Reduction was 17 T CO2e
  • Carbon Emissions reduction from Transportation sector was significant which is 2,831 Tons of CO2e to 387 Tons of CO2e and Reduction 2,444 T CO2e
  • Carbon Emissions reduction from Better Living initiatives and number is 77 T CO2e to 39 T CO2e and reduction is 38 T CO2e.
  • Greeneries inclusion at project site added 13.75 T CO2e reductions sequestered Annually.
