Loepfe has been at the forefront of mastering polypropylene clearing for years, and PRISMA is the latest proof of this expertise. As PRISMA is an evolving system, Loepfe proudly announces a further improvement in P-clearing. Designed for spinning mills facing fluctuating humidity levels, the system is proven to offer better fabric quality while maintaining the cut rate.

Over the past 12 months, extensive trials have been conducted, and tons of data has been collected and used to upgrade the level of accuracy in polypropylene detection. The data was used for optimization in signal processing and to offer an additional setting function specifically for spinning mills that must contend with pronounced climatic fluctuations.

Polypropylene clearing

Contamination of cotton with synthetic fibers remains a significant concern for spinning mills. Polypropylene contamination, typically stemming from bale packaging, can lead to a myriad of issues throughout the production process. These include broken needles in knitting applications, thread breakage during weaving, and visible defects in the final product after dyeing. Effective contamination clearing substantially enhances yarn quality, while overly stringent measures can negatively impact production efficiency and increase waste.

For spinners, clever P-clearing balances the need for quality yarn with the imperative to maintain operational efficiency. Loepfe’s approach combines advanced technology, precise signal processing, and tailored settings to address various production scenarios, now enhanced to account specifically for humidity fluctuations.

New climate compensation

In response to the unique demands of spinning mills operating in environments with significant humidity variations, PRISMA now features an innovative climate compensation setting. Extensive testing of this new functionality at affected spinning mills has demonstrated several benefits, including:

  • Enhanced overall classification accuracy
  • Improved clearing performance
  • Consistent cut rates coupled with superior final fabric quality
  • Same cuts and better clearing performance

The new function makes it easy to counteract the changing climate in a spinning mill. The system then takes into account the increasing humidity and calculates an average value between the standard deviation and the peak values.

By providing this enhanced climate compensation setting, Loepfe empowers spinning mills to sustain peak performance and exceptional quality, even when confronted with challenging environmental conditions.

01 P clearing

P-Clearing Matrix

The P-Matrix allows operators to input specific parameters, starting with a pre-generated clearing curve by the Autostart function that considers the most crucial factors for optimal and efficient clearing results. By easily adjusting the settings – raising or lowering the clearing curve – operators can tailor outcomes to meet their individual production needs.

The key influences on polypropylene clearing include:

  • Raw material (fiber length and short fiber content)
  • Yarn count
  • Twist amount in the yarn
  • Yarn hairiness
  • Humidity (impact on hairiness)
2 Settings

How to set P climate compensation

Go to Default Group Settings and set Climate Compensation to 50%. Select the checkbox Adjustable in Group to show it in Group Settings optional. This 50% will be applied to all the groups by default. The service key is required to access the Default Group Settings.

The Climate Compensation value may be influenced by the yarn count and cotton variety. It is recommended to start with a value of 50% as various trials show that the best result can be achieved between 35% and 75%.

Placement prints or engineered panels are a great way of controlling the position of a design for a specific product. The design is created to the scale of the product and, in contrast to a continually repeating seamless tile, when printed digitally, can be printed as strategically placed pattern pieces across the printable area of the fabric.

Q. How does placement printing reduce chemical consumption and wastage?

Abu Sayem: Well, we have to keep in mind that there is no way but to adapt to the technology. the textile industry, dyes & chemicals basically used in the dyeing & printing process.

As someone with expertise in placement printing, I have specific suggestions to reduce dye and chemical consumption in the process:

a) Have to select proper mesh count considering design effect. It is very important for print opacity.

b) Actual How many strokes are required to do a print and how many followed? More strokes mean more ink consumption.

c) Automatic emulsion coating systems can reduce photo-cure emulsion consumption.

d) Quality dyes-chemical can reduce ink consumption, if you use the best quality, ink then you will get the best opacity print.

2. Shortly we can say wastage means Unnecessary Consumption or Access after use. In the context of the environment, reducing wastage is a burning as well as challenging issue nowadays.

Here i have Some Points to follow in placement Printing that would help to reduce wastage-

a) You must establish and follow the recipe to prepare the bulk ink. Lots of factories in Bangladesh do not follow it. As a result, a huge amount of dyes-chemicals need to be disposed of as waste.

b) Prepare the bulk ink in smaller quantities, such as in 2 or 3 phases. If the entire amount is prepared at once, there is a higher chance of wastage.

c) If Possible substitute the dyes-chemicals. Category-wise, like class one, two, three, etc. Or hazardous-no hazardous. So that does not mix with each other.

d) In Bangladesh more than 80%. Printing Chemicals are water-based. So, during Production after a certain time, Printing Ink become dry through flash Curing heat. So, here once in a while it may be 1 or 2 hours after, we can dye load again the dry ink and reuse it.

  • New bags use Hydropol™ – a marine-safe, biodegradable and recyclable polymer as an alternative to conventional plastics –
  • Hydropol™ breaks down without forming harmful microplastics
  • Aquapak Polymers Ltd, the developers of Hydropol™, a unique polymer which is soluble and non-toxic to marine life, has today announced a new collaboration with Maxim and N Brown, the inclusive retail platform and owner of the JD Williams, Jacamo and Simply Be brands.  Hydropol™ can be used as an alternative to conventional plastic in a wide variety of packaging applications as it provides the same functionality and performance but without the associated environmental problems.

The retailer will begin rolling out Maxim’s Polymax™ powered by HydropolTM packaging for its garment bags for N Brown own-label products from the start of November, with the aim of reducing plastic waste and preventing recycling confusion and will become the UK’s largest online user of the environmentally friendly packaging technology in the fashion sector.

Unlike traditional plastic film, garment bags made using HydropolTMcan be recycled alongside paper, plastic, metal or food without any risk of contamination. Consumers can put HydropolTM packaging in their kerbside recycling where it will dissolve safely as part of the recycling process without the risk of damaging or polluting the environment or interfering with the recycling process. It can also go in standard black bins where it will safely biodegrade, It can even be dissolved completely in warm soapy water and washed away in the kitchen sink, leaving no harmful microplastics behind.

As well as offering N Brown customers an easier and more sustainable way to dispose of their packaging, moving to PolymaxTM powered by HydropolTM packaging will have a significant impact on the amount of plastic used in N Brown’s operations. It’s expected that plastic use will be reduced by almost half (44%) once the PolymaxTM powered by HydropolTM packaging is rolled out across all own-brand products. If PolymaxTM powered by HydropolTM packaging was used for all garment packaging, it is estimated that around 25 million tonnes of conventional, hard-to-recycle packaging could be prevented from entering the environment each year[1].

Mark Lapping, CEO of Aquapak Polymers said: “Hydropol™ offers fashion retailers the opportunity to reinvent packaging as we know it. N Brown will almost halve the use of conventional plastic by switching to the new garment bags which provide optimum garment and merchandise protection but without harming the environment.  We hope other retailers and brand owners will take similar action to meet the needs of customers, shareholders and other stakeholders while significantly reducing the spread of plastic pollution and improving their sustainability credentials.”

Sarah Welsh, CEO of Retail at N Brown Group said “Reducing our impact on the environment while ensuring a high-quality product experience for our customers is something we take very seriously. Packaging has always been a key area of innovation for us as it makes up a significant proportion of the plastic that is used across our operations.

“Polymax powered by HydropolTM is a really exciting product that offers us the ability to package our clothes effectively without the use of conventional plastic and provides our customers with multiple easy and environmentally friendly disposal options. “This new packaging is going to enable us to reduce our plastic usage by 44%, without compromising on the quality of our packaging. We’re excited for customers to start receiving some own-brand products in this new packaging this Autumn, with the full rollout to 100% of own-brand products set to be complete by the end of 2025.”

Tom Wielicki at Maxim said: “We’re incredibly excited that N Brown Group will become the largest retailer in the UK to use Polymax ® powered by HydropolTM packaging for their products. We believe that Polymax ® powered by HydropolTM is the solution to the burden of conventional single-use plastic in the fashion packaging sector, and we’re proud of the fact that it is fully recyclable, biodegradable and water soluble. “We hope that other large retailers in the UK will follow N Brown in choosing a more sustainable future for their garment delivery.”
